Reports prior to 1921 included here are reports of the Division of Mineral Technology. In 1921 it was merged with the Division of Mechanical Technology. In 1918-1919 it became a division of the Department of Arts and Industries.
The Division of Mineral Technology was established in 1913 as an administratively independent division. In 1921 it was merged with the Division of Mineral Technology to form the Divisions of Mineral and Mechanical Technology. In 1919 the division was shifted from the Department of Anthropology to the Department of Arts and Industries. In 1912 the Division of Technology became the Division of Mechanical Technology.
In the general USNM reorganization of 1897 the Division of Technology of the Department of Anthropology was formed from the merger of the Technological Collections and Electrical Collections of the old Department of Arts and Industries.
